At 6 o'clock it looked pretty doubtful that tonight's Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series crits at the Brickworks would go ahead, but miraculously the rain stayed away until the last lap of the last race.
All four grades were on the course at once to beat the weather, and it worked really well, at least partly due to the use of different coloured helmet covers for each grade. A Grade lost a rider on the start line due to a broken spoke but the racing was fierce nonetheless. Leigh Wallace pulled his usual trick and broke away less than halfway into the race and was only overhauled with less than two laps to go. The field broke up on the last lap, leaving three to contest the sprint which was won narrowly by Peter Cavallaro from Sean Penno with Brent Gibson not far away in third. B Grade was another good race as the group stayed together until one lap to go when Stuart Laing and Robert Gartside broke clear, but they couldn't stay clear and were overhauled by Darren McKellar and Mark Buckell, with Darren powering to a well-earned victory. It was a similar story in C Grade with pretty much the whole bunch lining up for the sprint where Steve Baynes out-sprinted Cheryle Barker and Greg Chapman for the win. Andrea Wilson time-trialled her way to victory in D Grade with Michelle Francis plugging on gallantly to run second.
