The Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series for 2019/20 got off to a great start this evening at Murphy Street with over thirty riders in four grades going around the criterium circuit.
A grade was possibly the strongest assembled in recent years and the relentless high speeds saw some riders drop off and the field split before coming back together on the final lap. First time Vets rider Brendan Schultz leapt away on the downhill run to the line to win comfortably from Darren Lapthorne who just squeezed out Martin Banfield for second. B Grade was another great race as a few solo attempts to get away all failed and pretty much the whole bunch lined up for the sprint, taken out by first-time Vets rider Darren Jones from Mark Buckell and Rob Gartside. Cheryle Barker used her well-honed race craft to sneak away from the C Grade field on the last lap to win that grade, after Tom de Vries had tried a similar tactic half a lap earlier but couldn't hold off the field. Neil Andrews and Peter Ladd took out the minor places. The small D Grade field stayed together for most of the race with it all coming down to the sprint, won bly Aileen O'Brien who was closely followed by Karyn Mackenzie and another first-time rider, Donna Todd.
